The Nose is one of the most striking features of the face and is usually the first area noticed by any one looking at the face from a conversational distance. If the nose is misshapen or too big or too small, it becomes more noticeable in comparison to the rest of the facial features.
Size and shape of a nose which disrupts facial harmony and beauty can be a cause of great psychological distress and low confidence. In today’s world of selfies and online presence being a career path, a proportionate and defined nose can do wonders for self confidence and create a positive body image.
Rhinoplasty tackles both cosmetic problems of the nose and functional problems of breathing and nasal blockage. It corrects imperfections and transforms the shape of the nose to elevate the facial proportions.

Pre Operative
Detailed history, review of your medications and preoperative photos help us assess the defect accurately and formulate the correct treatment plan. The journey from consultation to final result is a long one for Rhinoplasty and I like to discuss this in detail with the patients in the pre procedure consultation.
Surgery
This surgery is done under general anesthesia. The surgery may or may not involve an external scar, based on the type of rhinoplasty performed (Closed or Open). Extra Cartilage Grafts may occasionally need to be taken from the ear or the chest if deformity is severe. A cast is applied on the nose to reduce swelling and hold the new shape.
Post Operative
Rhinoplasty is done as a daycare procedure or may involve an overnight stay. Patients go home with a nasal pack which needs to be removed 2 days after surgery. There is swelling over the nose and around the eyes occasionally which goes away in 4-5 days.
Recovery
Most patients will be back to work with in 10 days. The nasal splint needs to be worn for 3-4 weeks. Though most of the swelling over the nose goes away in a month’s time, it can take upto a year for the final shape of the nose to be seen.

Patience is the key when you consider a Rhinoplasty surgery. The skin of the nose is thick and takes time to redrape over the new nose. Though the initial swelling will disappear in 2-3 weeks, some mild swelling can last 6 months to a year and the final precise shape will be seen after 6 months.
A disproportionate nose, a misshaped nose, breathing difficulty, injury to the nose or birth defects are common reasons to consider Nose surgery.
Some aspects of the nose can be corrected by using Fillers. This is an outpatient procedure and does not require a hospital stay or anesthesia. To know if it’s the right procedure for you, contact us.
There will be a small scar between your nostrils if an Open Rhinoplasty is performed. A Closed Rhinoplasty is done without external scars.
