A MINI Tummy Tuck or MINI Abdominoplasty surgery involves removal of excess fat and loose skin from the area under your belly button.
As we age, the abdomen easily stores excess fat that is stubborn and resistant to diet and exercise. Both men and especially women, after pregnancies tend to develop a little bulge of loose skin and fat around their lower tummy, often known as the ‘POOCH”. Pre Operative
As a female plastic surgeon, I like to connect with my patients on a personal level and understand their concerns and expectations. Detailed history, examination and preoperative photos help us assess the skin excess, muscle weakness and residual stubborn fat pockets accurately. The approximate scar length and body contouring is also discussed.
Surgery
Mini Tummy tuck involves removal of skin excess and repair of muscle weakness, if any, below the belly button. The incision is small and stays under the panty line. The scar fades with time and good scar care and is barely noticeable.
Post Operative
The surgery is done under general anesthesia with same day discharge. You may or may not have a drain in place. You will be discharged with a prescription of antibiotics and pain killers. Most women do not experience pain after 2 days. There is a feeling of tightness due to the muscle repair which subsides gradually.
Recovery
You will be encouraged to walk the same day and should be comfortably walking in a 3-4 days. Recovery takes about 1 week. You will need to use a well fitted garment to help reduce the swelling for 2 months. Some activities like jogging, high impact exercises and swimming will be restricted for 4-6 weeks.

When there is Excess of loose Skin and Muscle weakness over the entire tummy, a Complete Tummy Tuck is required to remove that excess and repair and tighten the muscle. We recommend resuming slow walking the same or the next day of surgery. You should be comfortable to walk around your house in 2-3 days. Most patients get back to work in 2 weeks. If your job is strenuous then you may need upto 4 weeks to recover. Some activities like jogging, high impact exercises and swimming will be restricted for 4-6 weeks.
